Imagine being able to make shoes from plastic waste that plagues our oceans. Well, that has now become a reality.

Adidas just previewed their new running shoes, which are made with 95% ocean plastic in partnership with Parley for the Oceans — a nonprofit that’s dedicated to reducing plastic waste in the oceans.

Named the “UltraBOOST Uncaged Parley,” Adidas uses Parley Ocean Plastic™ collected from the ocean near the Maldives to create the lace, heel cap base, heel lining, and sock liner cover.

We are working with Parley to transform ocean plastic pollution into high performance sportswear, spinning the problem into a solution. The threat into a thread.

The shoe giant aims to make 1 million of these shoes in 2017, which will reuse 11 million plastic bottles. Additionally, Adidas hopes to fully eradicate their use of virgin plastic in the near future while utilizing ocean plastic in more of their products.

The shoes will soon be available for purchase for $220. To receive updates on the shoes, sign up here.
