Everyone knows that breakups are no fun. Let’s face it: They suck.
You most likely had weekly dates and cuddly nights in with wine…but now that you’re single, you have to figure out solo plans. Your friends might beg you to go out, but if there’s anything we learned, it’s that broken hearts take some time to mend.
So go ahead and mourn a little before you start scoping the field again — and there’s no better way to do it than with a good Netflix sesh and a side of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. Here are some movies to watch on Netflix post-breakup:
Bridget Jones Diary (2001)
We know, we know. This is an obvious movie choice to watch post-breakup. But hey, there’s nothing better than Bridget Jones. Watching Bridget go through making embarrassing mistakes to struggling with weight fluctuations, we can all relate to her.
Sixteen Candles (1984)
This isn’t your basic post-breakup movie, but it’ll certainly make you feel good. Molly Ringwald’s character battles the horrifying high school years and conquers her dreamy high school crush. We’re sure this movie will put a smile on your face.
Erin Brockovich (2000)
If anyone can make you feel empowered about your newly single life, it’s Erin Brockovich played by Julia Roberts. Talk about girl power! This movie will get you inspired about being on your own and perhaps even motivate you to conquer a new project.
Something’s Gotta Give (2002)
Age is but a number in this movie and we think you’ll be able to relate to Diane Keaton. After falling in love and going through a breakup, Diane’s character goes through the motions of losing a “ladies man” and trying to find herself after the relationship.
Serendipity (2001)
While this may be a lovey dovey film, don’t knock us until you finish it all the way through. This movie will teach you that everyone happens for a reason. So if you’re going through a breakup, it’s not the end of the world. You’ll learn that it’s the way it was supposed to be and there’s someone else out there for you.
Hitch (2005)
Following the life of a matchmaker who can’t seem to figure out his own love life, this movie will definitely bring you laughs in a time of sadness. Also, it’ll inspire you to stay true to yourself whoever you meet down the road.
Drinking Buddies (2013)
Two friends who work at a brewery together have a connection, but they’re both in separate relationships. Watch as they try to avoid their chemistry and figure out their own love lives. It’ll show you that everyone goes through relationship struggles in one form or another.
The Holiday (2006)
If you need one of those “feel good” movies, then this is the one to watch. Kate and Cameron go through bad breakups then fall back in love, and it’ll give you the hope you need during your time of heartbreak. Plus, Jude Law isn’t too bad to look at either.
The Wedding Planner (2001)
J. Lo falling in love with a soon to be married man makes your breakup look a little easier. OK, maybe not completely easy, but it does ease some of the pain you’re going through. Tip: Watch with Peanut M&M’s because this movie will give you a strong desire to eat them.
Failure to Launch (2006)
If you’re going through a breakup with a guy who had a hard time committing or just needed to grow up, this movie is for you. The sexy Matthew McConaughey can’t seem to leave his parents house, so our beloved Sarah Jessica Parker tries her best to do the trick.
Meet the Parents (2000)
Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro are sure to make you laugh during your awful breakup — trust us. Whether you dealt with bad in-laws or just had difficulty getting along with their family, this movie will make you feel better about being single for a while.
