Picking the perfect paint color for your home can be intimidating and overwhelming. Between the wide variety of options and the fact that paint can look extremely different on the wall versus in the can, it’s certainly not the easiest job in the world.
To help you narrow down your choices, here are the best interior wall paint colors, according to interior designers.
Farrow & Ball Charleston Gray
If you’re looking for a nice gray, this is a versatile choice. Douglas Graneto, the principal designer of Douglas Graneto Design, says, “It can create a rich surrounding for a library if using a high gloss finish, but also acts as a soothing neutral in a beach house setting.”
Benjamin Moore Dark Harbor
Looking for something dark and moody? Principal designer at The Design Collaborative Hannah Davis suggests this shade because “it’s a rich blue jewel tone that is beautiful when accented with neutrals or complemented with warm tones of gold or burnt orange.”
Behr Beloved Pink
Blush is always a good idea. “It is an unexpected choice, but still soft and subtle,” says Stephanie Purcell, interior designer and owner of Redesigned Classics. “When paired with gold accessories and dark furniture, it transforms a room to be anything but boring.”
Benjamin Moore Simply White
Want to keep it simple? “This is warm and elegant without hints of yellows or blues, making it versatile [and] perfect for velvety matte walls or glossy trim,” says Kelly Scheer, an interior designer at Scheer & Co.
Benjamin Moore Sweet Honeydew Melon
For something different, opt for this gorgeous light green. Owner and principal designer of Eco Method Interiors Erica Reiner says, “this very light minty green is that perfect color for a refreshing feel that’s light enough to be subtle but still evokes happiness.”
Benjamin Moore Rocking Chair
Sometimes a neutral beige is your best bet. Leslie Eiler, design manager at CRD Design Build, loves this shade. “It’s a lovely color that doesn’t go too orange or too gray. [It’s] very elegant and chic,” she says.
Farrow & Ball Pink Ground
Go for something bright with this shade. Interior designer Kathryn Nelson says, “Farrow & Ball has one of the most sophisticated hues out there and it’s not just for baby nurseries.”
Benjamin Moore White Dove
“This is a designer’s favorite for a good reason. It’s the perfect warm white that works with both grays and beiges,” says Graneto.
Behr Wind Speed
For color that isn’t too dramatic, try this one out. Purcell says, “I love this blue because it is not overpowering, has a gray undertone, and acts as a neutral while still adding a splash of color in a light and bright way.”

Stand out big time with this unique color. Susan Williams of Siren Betty Design says, “this bold accent wall really serves to define the room – it creates a ‘room’ where there wasn’t one!”

You can’t go wrong with a good gray. “This very pale blue-gray looks gorgeous with white linen curtains to create a soothing, zen bedroom oasis,” says interior designer Anne Hepfer.
