Dear G,

Your hair always looks flawless. What are your secrets?

Best,
Temma

Temma,
First off, thanks for using the word flawless in your question — you just made a friend for life (yup, it’s that easy).

Seriously though, when it comes to hair, most of us want the same thing: smooth, shiny, bouncy hair that looks totally effortless. Of course, creating that effortless look can actually take quite a bit of effort.

Because I’m on camera, my hair has been damaged by blow dryers, bright lights, highlights, straighteners and a flying doughnut from craft services (Bill was picking the sprinkles out of my hair for weeks!). However, I’ve also picked up a few hair tricks from some of the best in the biz. Here are a few of my best tips for keeping your locks looking lux!

Don’t wash your hair every day. Since my hair has to be styled every day for E! News, I like to give it a break from the blow dryer. I’ve found that when I wash it every day it gets a little dry and dull.

Find a stylist you can trust. I get my color done by Tracey Cunningham at the Byron and Tracey salon in Beverly Hills. She’s a genius! I just switched to the Ombre look which is long dark roots that gradually fade into light blond hair at the ends. Not only do I love this look, but it’s saving me money because I don’t have to touch up my roots as much!

Eliminate signs of damage with Kendi Oil. To fight the dullness that comes from hair color and blowouts, I use Alterna’s Bamboo Smooth Kendi Pure Treatment Oil. I apply while my hair is still damp and it always adds serious shine!

Having a bad hair day? It’s nothing that a rubber band, a headband or a cute hat can’t fix! Having a really bad, God awful, no one can see me like this, hair day? Call in sick and rent Love Actually .

xx, G
