Let’s be real: Vacations are stressful. From packing to planning out your trip, it’s easy to forget that traveling is meant to help you unwind and relax. We promise that your summer travels will be total bliss if you just follow our tips below. So get ready to be the best beach bum that summer has ever seen.
Plan ahead (and then have a backup). Let us guess. You’re the one that thinks you’ll be able to figure out your plans once you arrive, but then find yourself stuck at the hotel searching for hip restaurants and local favorites. Us too. Spontaneity is great, but so is booking reservations ahead of time. Always have a game plan, and a backup. Many popular places and activities may ll up before you get a chance to check them out, so find the next best thing and make the most out of it.
Anticipate the worst…and get ahead of it. Yes, you know what we’re talking about: lost luggage. It’s the ultimate vacation killer, but you can at least do your part in case your belongings get misplaced. Don’t underestimate the power of using a good ol’ luggage tag (we use Understated Leather’s On The Road Again Travel Set, so our tags match our passport holder too #winwin). Fill it in with a P.O. Box or your work address and your cell phone number.
Avoid jet lag. We know it’s not easy to get decent sleep while flying, but you need rest to be at your best. Two things always work for us: the perfect pillow and eye mask. Invest in memory foam pillow because it provides better comfort and support. Eye masks trick your brain into thinking it’s nighttime, so keep it handy for a long night or bus ride. Just make sure to avoid sleeping pills at all costs. You never want to put yourself in a situation where you’re unable to wake up on a plane.
Choose your travel buddy wisely. This is probably the most crucial part of any vacation. Find someone you can relax with, not someone you have to please. Want to lay on the beach all day and sip mojitos? Great, just make sure you’re not with someone who feels like scuba diving with sharks. Communicate about what activities you want to participate in beforehand, so that you can just go with the flow.
Short trips aren’t always the way to go. If you don’t have enough time to really get away, save your money for when you can take a longer vacation. Sometimes people feel like a long weekend means they should catch the next plane to Cabo, but that’s not always wise. Short trips can feel more like a tease than a vacation. You’ll spend the entire trip dreading having to leave, which will just stress you out more. If you’re only getting Monday off, just Netflix and chill.
Get pampered. What are getaways for anyway? If you’re going to relax, treat yourself to the most luxe massage on the menu! Reducing physical pain will positively affect your emotional health, and you’ll be significantly more at ease. Don’t feel like hitting the spa? Bring your favorite massage oil and take advantage of that hotel bathroom. We love traveling with the Way of Will 03 Soothe and Cool Massage Oil. The peppermint gives the skin a pleasant tingling feeling while lemongrass helps to cool and hydrate the skin.
