{"id":87669,"date":"2016-08-30T15:37:57","date_gmt":"2016-08-30T22:37:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/?p=87669"},"modified":"2016-08-30T15:37:57","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T22:37:57","slug":"orlando-shooting-medical-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/orlando-shooting-medical-bills\/","title":{"rendered":"Hospital Won&#8217;t Bill Victims of Orlando Shootings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Orlando was hit with <a href=\"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/orlando-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\">a deadly\u00a0mass shooting<\/a> at Pulse nightclub this past June, and many of the survivors were hospitalized and had to undergo expensive, life-saving\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hellogiggles.com\/pulse-victims-wont-pay-medical-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\">surgeries and treatments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, two hospitals (Orlando Health and Florida Hospital) that\u00a0treated the nightclub survivors decided to write off all medical expenses, which came out to approximately $5.5 million dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the survivors didn&#8217;t even have medical insurance and were worried about how they would pay off their\u00a0bills, including survivor Mario Lopez. He owed approximately $20,000 and told the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/news\/pulse-orlando-nightclub-shooting\/os-orlando-health-wont-bill-pulse-victims-20160824-story.html\" target=\"_blank\">Orlando Sentinel<\/a>, &#8220;My life was turned upside down, and then I had to worry about how I was going to pay back the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Families of victims who didn&#8217;t survive after receiving hospital treatment will also not be charged for the victims&#8217; medial bills.
