Pok\u00e9mon Go<\/a> is\u00a0the newest global craze to take over everyone’s smart phones. It was released in early July and has since topped the gaming charts! While it might be another gaming\u00a0app to some, it’s noticeably\u00a0changing the lives of those who are Pok\u00e9mon-obsessed.<\/p>\n

Here are five\u00a0ways this reboot of a childhood classic is making the world a better place:<\/p>\n

People Are Socializing More<\/strong>
\nPlayers from all over\u00a0gather at Pok\u00e9spots (hotspots where many Pok\u00e9mon are found) to catch new Pok\u00e9mon and show off their collection to others. People constantly gather\u00a0in local establishments and socialize\u00a0while playing the game. Children with mental handicaps are running around with new friends as they try to catch the elusive Pikachu. Veterans with PTSD are overcoming their anxiety and happily venture outside their homes. College campuses and city parks are bustling at all hours of the day as more and more people are spending time outdoors.<\/p>\n

People Are Exercising More<\/strong>
\nDiscovering new Pok\u00e9mon, obtaining\u00a0more Pok\u00e9balls, and hatching eggs require the player to walk. Motivated to \u201ccatch \u2018em all,\u201d people who struggle with obesity are walking and bicycling around town. Pok\u00e9spots are spread all throughout cities and certain Pok\u00e9mon are only found in specific areas — there\u2019s no way to play the game without moving. Eggs, which hatch some exclusive Pok\u00e9mon, require the player to walk around\u00a01-6 miles before they hatch. The game recognizes how fast a player is moving and if it’s faster than a jog, it doesn’t register as a distance walked (it can catch if people are driving around to hatch eggs), so exercise is mandatory.<\/p>\n

Police-Civilian Tension Is Easing<\/strong>
\nSocioeconomic status and race tensions have been high with all the police vs. civilian controversy that has recently come to light. But this simple gaming app\u00a0is doing what it can to ease this strained relationship. There have been numerous user reports of police officers, who are also Pok\u00e9mon trainers, blasting the Pok\u00e9mon theme song and announcing where Pok\u00e9mon can be found over their cruiser speakers. There has also been a decrease in\u00a0crime and suspicious activity due to the large groups of peaceful players flocking to parks, bars, and landmarks.<\/p>\n

\nAs mentioned earlier, Pok\u00e9spots are various landmarks and buildings scattered throughout the world. More people are visiting caf\u00e9s, bars, restaurants, and other small businesses to take advantage of these hotspots. Smaller establishments have become strategic and are\u00a0offering discounts and special deals for people who drop lure modules which is used to attract more Pok\u00e9mon beneficial to\u00a0any users nearby. Hungry players stop and grab a meal to refuel during their Pok\u00e9mon excursions and discover new establishments in the process.<\/p>\n

People Are Giving Back to the Community<\/strong>
