{"id":84782,"date":"2016-07-22T15:14:07","date_gmt":"2016-07-22T22:14:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/?p=84782"},"modified":"2016-07-22T15:14:57","modified_gmt":"2016-07-22T22:14:57","slug":"zoe-saldana-autoimmune-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/zoe-saldana-autoimmune-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Zoe Saldana Opens up About Autoimmune Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zoe Saldana recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.net-a-porter.com\/magazine\/360\/9\" target=\"_blank\">revealed that she has an autoimmune disease<\/a>\u00a0in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.net-a-porter.com\/magazine\/360\/9\" target=\"_blank\">interview with The Edit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Star Trek Beyond<\/em> actress revealed\u00a0that she suffers from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/women\/hashimotos-thyroiditis-symptoms-causes-treatments\" target=\"_blank\">Hashimoto&#8217;s Thyroiditis<\/a>, a disorder where the immune system turns against the body&#8217;s own tissues.\u00a0Her mother and sisters\u00a0suffer from this disorder, as well.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Your body doesn\u2019t\u00a0have the energy it needs to filter toxins, causing it to believe that it has an infection, so it\u2019s always inflamed. You<br \/>\ncreate antibodies that attack your glands, so you have to eat clean.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Saldana and her husband, Marco Perego, are foodies but have since\u00a0gone gluten and dairy-free in order to comply with with Saldana&#8217;s health conditions. She shared how much she enjoyed food in her twenties until her doctor told her\u00a0she was losing calcium in her bones.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What the f*** is that?! I would hear those conversations with my mom and grandma, thinking I\u2019d never get there. I\u2019m going to live forever! But all of a sudden it hits you.
