{"id":84362,"date":"2016-07-18T11:24:09","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T18:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/?p=84362"},"modified":"2016-07-18T12:09:05","modified_gmt":"2016-07-18T19:09:05","slug":"homeless-college-student-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/homeless-college-student-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Here&#8217;s How a Community Helped This Homeless College Student"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When\u00a0officers\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fox59.com\/2016\/07\/15\/homeless-teen-bikes-six-hours-to-get-to-college-sleeps-in-tent\/\" target=\"_blank\">received a report\u00a0over the weekend<\/a>\u00a0about a tent pitched outside of Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia, they didn&#8217;t expect to see this.<\/p>\n<p>Fred Barely, a biology major at GSC, came to register for his second semester and biked six hours from Conyers in the scorching heat. He traveled with just a tent, a few belongings, water, and a box of cereal. He set up his tent until the dorms opened in August so he could search for a job.<\/p>\n<p>The officers were so moved by his story and paid for Barely&#8217;s stay at a motel for two nights.<\/p>\n<p>One of the officer&#8217;s wives posted the story on a community Facebook page and\u00a0the motel owner and a local resident, Casey Blaney, paid for\u00a0the rest of the student&#8217;s stay at the motel until he could move in early to the dorms today.
