{"id":83069,"date":"2016-06-27T11:26:19","date_gmt":"2016-06-27T18:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/?p=83069"},"modified":"2016-06-27T11:26:19","modified_gmt":"2016-06-27T18:26:19","slug":"billboard-magazine-and-celebs-are-speaking-out-on-gun-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/billboard-magazine-and-celebs-are-speaking-out-on-gun-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"These Celebs Are Speaking out on Gun Violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/06\/23\/entertainment\/billboard-gun-violence-open-letter-congress\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Billboard Magazine<\/a> is speaking out on\u00a0how\u00a0we need to crack down on gun violence.<\/p>\n<p>In light of the recent\u00a0shooting in <a href=\"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/orlando-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\">Orlando<\/a> and the tragic murder\u00a0of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/06\/11\/entertainment\/orlando-christina-grimmie-shot\/\" target=\"_blank\">Christina Grimmie<\/a>, celebs like Selena Gomez, <a href=\"https:\/\/fabfitfun.com\/magazine\/lady-gaga-orlando-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lady Gaga<\/a>, and Ellen DeGeneres are campaigning with Billboard to pass stricter laws on gun violence.<\/p>\n<p>Billboard editors shared an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/open-letter\/\" target=\"_blank\">open letter<\/a>\u00a0to Congress which noted\u00a0&#8220;both tragedies occurred where musicians and music fans gathered&#8221; and strongly stated how we\u00a0need to continue to advocate\u00a0for gun safety. Their editors, along with the help of leading gun-violence prevention group <a href=\"http:\/\/everytown.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Everytown for Gun Safety<\/a>, reached out to those they cover in the music industry to ask for their support. You can find celebs who signed the letter on the cover of Billboard&#8217;s most recent issue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The one thing that connects the recent tragedies in Orlando is that it is far too easy for dangerous people to get their hands on guns,&#8221; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/open-letter\/\" target=\"_blank\">letter<\/a> states. &#8220;We call on Congress to do more to prevent the gun violence that kills more than 90 Americans every day and injures hundreds more, including: require a background check for every gun sale; block suspected terrorists from buying guns.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This petition comes after the Senate disapproved four new gun control proposals on Monday.\u00a0Read the full <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/open-letter\/\" target=\"_blank\">letter<\/a> here.<\/p>\n<p>What are your thoughts on this petition?
