On average\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jezebel.com\/5890058\/this-is-how-much-it-costs-to-own-a-vagina-an-itemized-list\" target=\"_blank\">women use 11,000 tampons or pads in a whole lifetime.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0California assemblywoman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cristina_Garcia_%28politician%29\" target=\"_blank\">Cristina Garcia<\/a>\u00a0is working to see that these necessary products aren&#8217;t taxed.\u00a0Garcia said to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/wonk\/wp\/2016\/01\/08\/the-tampon-tax-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Washington Post<\/a>,&#8221;women in California pay about $7 per month for 40 years of tampons and sanitary napkins. Statewide, it adds up &#8220;over $20 million annually in taxes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While Garcia has been entertaining the idea of abolishing the &#8220;tampon tax&#8221;\u00a0for some time now, it wasn&#8217;t until this past January\u00a0that she officially proposed Assembly Bill 1561.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia is taking such a stand against this issue\u00a0because &#8220;we are basically being taxed for being women.&#8221; And if this bill passes, it will further push our trek for gender equality &#8212; and help women everywhere save money.<\/p>\n<p>What are your thoughts on tampon tax?
