This incredible organization focuses on several crucial<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">areas that serve as a guideline for their work and efforts, including Komen-led research initiatives, advocating for policies that protect patients and prioritize their critical needs, and providing evidence-based education and support. The following breast self-awareness\u00a0 messages could help save lives. We encourage you to read and share with your loved ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Know your risk<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Talk to both sides of your family to learn about your family health history.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Talk to a doctor about your risk of breast cancer<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>2. Get screened\u00a0<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Talk with a doctor about which screening tests are for you if you are at higher risk.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have a mammogram every year starting at age 40 if you are at average risk.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have a clinical breast exam at least every 3 years starting at age 20, and every year starting at age 40.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>3. Know what is normal for you\u00a0<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">See a doctor if you notice any of these breast changes:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lump, hard knot or thickening inside the breast or underarm area<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swelling, warmth, redness or darkening of the breast\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Change in the size or shape of the breast<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dimpling or puckering of the skin\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Itchy, scaly sore or rash on the nipple<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pulling in of the nipple or other parts of your breast<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nipple discharge that starts suddenly\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New pain in one spot that does not go away\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Did you know 6 of the 8 warning signs of breast cancer are visual?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The signs of breast cancer are not the same for everyone. It is important to know how your breasts normally look and feel.
