It might feel like mental health is out of reach, but there <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">little things you can do every day to keep you in balance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Take care of your body<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The body-mind connection is extremely powerful &#8212; so much so that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC486942\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">depression can actually manifest as physical sickness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you take care of your body, it will be better equipped to deal with life\u2019s many stressors. So, tip number one: move it! <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livestrong.com\/article\/1013108-workout-youll-actually-stick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find a workout you love<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, go for daily walks, get up and stretch throughout the day &#8212; anything to tell your body (and your brain) that when stress comes, you\u2019ll be ready.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Treat yourself with kindness<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSelf-care\u201d has become a bit of a buzzword, but it\u2019s necessary if you want to live a healthy, balanced life. Whether you\u2019re journaling or just mind dumping (writing without boundaries or judgment), getting your thoughts out of your head and onto paper is a lot like that. Decide what <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">really <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">needs to be done <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">right now<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and what can take a backseat to some mental self-care, and then take a day to do things that truly recharge you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Care for others<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We know what you\u2019re thinking: &#8220;<\/span>I can\u2019t even keep myself above water and you want me to help someone else?&#8221;\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The thing is, we\u2019re cooperative by nature, which means we can nourish ourselves by taking care of others.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re not suggesting you run out and start your own nonprofit (although, you could do that!). Sending a care package to a friend who\u2019s been down, volunteering to run a voter registration booth, or simply texting someone to make sure they\u2019re doing ok are all forms of caring for others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Treat yourself<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food can be medicine for tired bodies <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stressed minds. Taking time to make (or order) your favorite meal and really enjoy it can be a powerful relaxant. If you\u2019ve got a sweet tooth, let yourself enjoy a sweet treat. It\u2019s the little things!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Get a good night&#8217;s rest<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From muscle and cell repair to offloading mental stress, our bodies use our sleeping hours to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/health\/wellness-and-prevention\/the-science-of-sleep-understanding-what-happens-when-you-sleep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">restore themselves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
