But this year, celery made its way into the wellness scene as a superfood superstar, and everyone has been raving about the benefits of drinking celery juice.

Best-selling author Anthony Williams, also known as the Medical Medium, is responsible for starting the celery juice craze. Williams says that acne, psoriasis, brain fog, headaches, digestive issues, chronic fatigue, anxiety, and serious chronic illness can all be cured by drinking celery juice.

But what do health experts really think of this juicing trend? Keep reading to find out.

Celery stalks are more nutrient-dense than juice
Many nutritionists and doctors are firing back at Williams, saying there are no valid studies proving any healing effects of drinking celery juice, and that stalks are actually more nutrient-dense. However, there’s no harm in adding more celery into your diet by drinking it as juice.

According to holistic health coach Molly Alliman, celery juice does have the ability to flush toxins and reduce bloating, as it’s a natural diuretic full of antioxidants and phytonutrients. Like most nutritionists, however, she also recommends eating the stalks over juicing.

Celery juice contains more calories and sugar
Registered dietician Lisa Dryer actually recommends eating celery as a snack instead of juicing it if you’re trying to lose weight. While one cup of chopped celery only has 20 calories, one cup of celery juice has 46 calories and twice the amount of sugar.

There is no such thing as a miracle cure-all
While followers of the celery juice trend beg to differ, health experts want you to know there is no such thing as a miracle cure-all. Drinking celery juice will add more nutrients into your diet, but it might not heal all of your ailments.

Your body knows how to detox on its own
Celery juice might have the ability to help flush toxins out of your body, but your kidneys and liver already know how to do that without any added help. Registered dietician Lindsay Krasna says, “our kidneys and liver are the vital organs responsible for purifying our blood and ridding our bodies of harmful toxins. They do that beautifully whether we’re consuming celery juice or eating a burger.”

xx, The FabFitFun Team

Celery was once an overlooked vegetable reserved for crudités platters, merely serving as a vehicle ...
[4,5
