In honor of World Oceans Day (June 8), here are three things you can change in your daily routine to help keep our oceans clean.

Use reusable plastic products
From plastic bags to plastic straws, the plastic products we use every day can actually contribute to the death of many marine animals. Whether you reuse Ziploc bags or bring your own glass plates to work, start by making small changes to your everyday routine like switching out your plastic straws. In fact, the World Conservation Society will send you a free metal straw if you pledge to give up single-use plastic straws (click here to make the pledge and give a sip!).

Reduce energy use
The emission of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels can change the ocean’s chemistry by making it more acidic, thus affecting the life cycles of many marine organisms. A few simple ways you can reduce your energy use is by walking when you can, turning off appliances that aren’t in use, and adjusting your thermostat to be a few degrees higher in the summer and a few degrees lower in the winter.

Eat sustainable seafood
Many global fishing methods result in major habitat damage. Be mindful of the seafood you consume by looking for labels with Line Caught, Diver Caught, or Sustainably Caught. You can also use a seafood guide, like the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch to make sustainable seafood choices.

xx, The FabFitFun Team

[260
523
https://static.fabfitfun.com/magazine/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/08121548/shutterstock_1012507123.jpg
https://static.fabfitfun.com/magazine/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/08121548/shutterstock_1012507123-386x200.jpg
