We’re all for #girlpower and we were shocked to find that over 130 million girls are missing from classrooms around the world<\/a>. This figure, first released in 2017, is almost double the number of out-of-school girls reported previously. To put it simply, the situation is serious. In an effort to ensure every girl has the chance to learn and lead, the film Girl Rising<\/em> was created.<\/p>\n

And guess what? The film now stands at the heart of the work of Girl Rising, the nonprofit organization of the same name (it’s also nearing its fifth anniversary!). And in celebration of nearing its fifth anniversary, Girl Rising is releasing\u00a0Girl Rising: The Fifth Anniversary Edition<\/em>,\u00a0an updated version of the original film. It features updated statistics and exclusive video extras designed especially for a growing generation of changemakers.<\/p>\n

Film’s reach<\/strong>
\nWith an estimated 200 million viewers in over 100 countries and\u00a0over five billion news media impressions from ongoing social media engagement, public screenings, and more, it’s amazing just how far of a reach one film can have. It’s been shared in classrooms, boardrooms, and everywhere in between, acting as a powerful catalyst for conversations as well as action.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Listen carefully and you’ll recognize a few voices in Girl Rising<\/em>.\u00a0Celebs including Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, Alicia Keys, Meryl Streep, and Kerry Washington (just to name a few) have lent their voices as narrators in the film — new to the Fifth Anniversary Edition is actor and girls’ education activist, David Oyelowo.\u00a0Not to mention, support for Girl Rising’s campaigns go beyond the film itself. The organization raised awareness for out-of-school girls by launching the #62MillionGirls campaign on social media in collaboration with former First Lady Michelle Obama. Incredible impact around the world<\/strong>
\nThanks to\u00a0Girl<\/span>\u00a0Rising<\/span>‘s programs, local language versions of the film and custom educational materials are traveling the world. For example, it’s reaching close to 50,000 students in India, have been integrated into 500 primary schools in Nigeria, and are in use by teachers across the United States. Some of the results? A new generation of gender equality champions, increased school enrollment, and an improvement in students’ abilities to express their own opinions.<\/p>\n
