\n“Moist skin loves perfume the most as dehydration can affect the scent’s longevity,” says Steve Johnson, scent sommelier at Scentbird. So the next time you’re getting ready for an event,\u00a0apply your scent post-shower while your skin is still damp.<\/p>\n
\n“Don\u2019t rub areas where you apply perfume. The heat generated from rubbing makes fragrances wear off quicker, so you’ll lose the quality and projection of the fragrance,” explains Mark Knitowski, senior\u00a0vice president of product innovations at Victoria\u2019s Secret Beauty.<\/p>\n
\n“Before applying your perfume, layer it with either a lotion that’s scented with the same perfume or a non-scented lotion. Both will make the perfume last longer, as the lotion slightly occludes the aroma molecules from leaving the skin as fast,” states Johnson. And, if you’re up for it, lightly spray a scarf or your lapels with your favorite scent. Fabric absorbs perfume for days instead of hours, so a scarf scented with perfume blowing in the winter wind can create a lovely memory.”<\/p>\n
\n“Where you keep your fragrance is just as important as how you put it on. Store your perfume in a cool, dark, and humidity-free location (never the bathroom), this will maintain the true scent longer and give you long-lasting wear,” shares Matt. Also, always make sure to close your perfume bottles tightly so air doesn\u2019t cause oxidation — it could alter your scent!<\/p>\n
