It used to come from the glossy covers of iconic fashion magazines, but now it’s easy to be overwhelmed by bloggers’ Instagram photos or Snapchat stories by our favorite celebrities.

So how do you hold on to your own definition of who you are? How do you stay true to your own personal style? We asked the incomparable female founders featured in our Fall Box – and here’s what they said.

“To me the best part about fashion is feeling good in your clothes. That’s the fun part. So if the return of ‘90s-style velvet is not your thing — don’t wear it. I personally tend to be on the girlier side. My closet is about 90 percent dresses if I’m being totally honest. When I do rock jeans, you have to know I am going in the direction of bell bottoms. I’m just not a skinny jean kinda girl. I wear the clothes that make me feel good, and to me, that is what personal style is all about.” – Katie Ann Rosen Kitchens, Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder of FabFitFun

“I believe that style is a way to express your inner self to the world. Confidence is the way to stay true to your personal style. [It’s] not an easy thing to accomplish as we are bombarded with fashion and beauty ads. The key is to find what feels right on you and how you carry yourself instead of trying to mimic the models or celebrities.” – Nicole Authier, Founder of MYTAGALONGS

“It’s taken awhile to get here, but when I became comfortable with my canvas (i.e., me) my sense of style became very simple. I think there’s something really special about embracing the unique parts of both your identity and your appearance when you are figuring out your style, and amplifying my distinct features makes me feel authentic. My frizzy curly hair cannot be tamed, and it’s what drives the entire ship for me. I used to hate my hair and I hid it when I was younger by always pulling it back, but now I just let it do its thing and take up as much space as it needs. Embracing my hair has given me confidence to be bold in other parts of my style, and that confidence is absolutely my most powerful accessory.” – Julianna Dahbura, Founder of Deco Miami

“Style is always personal. My go-to things are based on ease, comfort, and the way they make me feel. I love pieces that can go day to night and are a mix of feminine and masculine.” – Jenn Kapahi, Co-Founder of trèStiQue

“We love how Connie Stevens puts it: ‘Nothing you wear is more important than your smile.’ But we might add, ‘…best worn with a pair of blue jeans and sneakers.'” – Melanie Bolin and Lina Dickinson, Founders of Mer-Sea & Co.

“In today’s culture, fast fashion is the norm and styles are changing constantly. When it comes to our belts and to my personal style, I like to stay true to classic shapes and silhouettes and quality materials. It’s great to stay on top of trends and know what’s in style, but I’m past the point of wanting to chase every trend. I know what I like, and I feel confident with my personal aesthetic.” – Ana Schoenberg, Founder of B-low the belt

“If I had to define my style I would say it’s modern basic. I stick to the basics and update with shoes, bags, and a few trend pieces. My approach is the same when it comes to my beauty routine, my home, and most areas of life. When I look in the mirror I always feel my best with freshly colored hair, in all black clothes, and a mauve lip, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to try on a different personal style for a day, a week, a month, or adapt it into my life!” – Donna Pohlad, Founder of dpHUE

“It is almost shocking how many images we are bombarded with every day. I am at the point where I know what I like and I won’t buy something because of a trend, whether that is clothing, beauty, or interior design. If I personally love it, that is all that matters!” – Aimee Werner, Founder of Whish Beauty

“The confidence in staying true to my personal style has come with getting older and gaining more experience with designing. It is totally fine to experiment with trends and personas when you are younger. I did for sure. But now that I am older and know my body shape better, my personal wardrobe is simple, classic, and versatile. I get very nostalgic about certain items of clothing, which contributes to my love affair with vintage clothing. The more you understand yourself and the rules of aesthetics, the less you care about being on trend.” – Kolet Hodgson, Creative Director of The Jetset Diaries

xx, The FabFitFun Team

P.S.
