Now it’s back to reality, and you’re left with a grueling hangover…

How do you shake off that nasty headache? Ahead, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite ways to get back to your functioning self.

Sweat it out. The last thing we want to do after a night of drinking is work out. Luckily, you don’t have to book back to back spin classes to cure your hangover because low-intensity workouts are more effective. Most hangovers are fueled by dehydration so if you do your usualy high-intensity interval traning dehydrated, it’ll actually do more harm than good. Opt for a yoga class instead or a short hike so you can begin the process of sweating out last night’s shots while being gentle with your body.

Water and electrolytes are your best friend. Curing a hangover actually starts that night. Before heading to bed, take a pain reliever (follow the dosage on the box) with two full glasses of water. This will ensure you don’t go to bed dehydrated while also helping prevent that headache. When you wake up, not only should you guzzle water, you should also replenish your body’s electrolytes, which is what helps you stay hydrated. Reaching for things like sports drinks, Pedialyte (yes, the stuff for babies), coconut water, or electrolyte infused water may help speed up your recovery.

Get some sleep. Some people think alcohol helps them sleep, but as it wears off, it usually affects the quality of your shut-eye and provides that not-so-fun foggy feeling the next day. If you can sleep in, do it! This will help your exhausted body get the adequate amount of rest that may have been disrupted by the ringing of Steve Aoki songs and tequila shots during the night.

Pop vitamins. Pregame with vitamin B. Taking preventative measures to combat a hangover before you even take a sip of alcohol may make them more manageable the next day. During a recent Livestrong study, 88% of participants who were given vitamin B-1 and B-6 reported less hangover symptoms than those who were given a placebo. Vitamins don’t have to just come in pill form — opt for a meal that includes food high in vitamin B like pork, enriched grains, and dark green veggies.

Hair of the dog. Even the thought of booze the day after a night of drinking can send us straight to the bathroom. But believe it or not, sipping on a cocktail the next morning can help some people feel better in the A.M. Hair of the dog works by temporarily easing your hangover pain — but just know it may also prolong your hangover. This option seems to work great for some and not at all for others. It’s an age old remedy that’s really a coin toss!

What are your foolproof ways for getting back to normal after a night of drinking?
