Girl looking in mirror applying product to lips

Gone are the days of rubbing off our makeup with a wipe and calling it a night. These days our skincare routine is a whole journey that leaves us feeling relaxed, refreshed, and ready to get our beauty sleep even if we tuck in looking like a glazed donut.

With a slew of beauty products on your roster it’s hard to know which should come first, second, and third in your routine. So we put together a suggestion of steps. Remember to follow a routine that works for you — if your skin doesn’t do well with certain products, skip that step and move onto the next!

1. Makeup Remover
Start with a clean, fresh face by removing your makeup from the day. We prefer using an oil cleanser or balm rather than a wipe which can tug at your skin.

2. Cleanser
You can knock out step one and two by using the Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser. It’s a best-selling antioxidant-rich cleanser, makeup remover, and mask in one. Strawberry seed oil, hydrolyzed wheat protein, and tomato extracts exfoliate and nourish for hydrated, silky and luminous skin. Plus, who doesn’t love a delicious strawberry scent?

3. Exfoliator or Mask
If you have a little extra time in your routine, get some resurfacing action with a clarifying product like the Herbivore Botanicals Blue Tansy Invisible Pores Resurfacing Clarity Mask. It’s a natural mask that gently clarifies skin with BHAs from white willow bark and fruit enzymes. Aloe and blue tansy essential oil soothe the appearance of redness and irritation.

4. Essence or Toner
Before applying your heavier products, balance your skin with a toner, or try an essence to prime your skin. You can apply it to your fingers and gently pat into your face rather than putting it on a pad, which may cause dragging and pulling. Try the Dr. Brandt Hydrating Essence to get some added moisture in your routine.

5. Serum
Find a serum that fits your skin’s needs. Try the SkinChemists London Collagen Serum to brighten, hydrate, and smooth. Our trick to get the most out of our serum is to use a device like the Trophy Skin Brighten MD 2.0, which refreshes your skin using red light therapy, sonic vibration, EMS technology and a gentle warming function.

6. Eye Cream
Don’t forget your delicate under eye area! Use a product specifically for this area like the award-winning Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream, which firms, soothes, and brightens using hyaluronic acid, plus it deeply hydrates and helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness.

7. Spot Treatments
If you have any blemishes or areas that could use a little extra care, you’ll want to give them a spot treatment just before your moisturizer. Spot treatments are typically a bit more concentrated and powerful, so you want to use them sparingly. Those containing benzoyl peroxide are best for treating active blemishes, while hydroquinone or azelaic acid are often used on dark spots.

8. Moisturizer
Hydrating your skin before bed is arguably one of the most important steps. So try not to skip this one! Our go-to right now is Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer. A whopping 90% of this silky glow moisturizer is spiked with vitamin and amino acid-rich watermelon extract, plumping hyaluronic acid, and soothing botanicals like peony and jasmine extracts. It’s 100% oil free and absorbs instantly to seal in hydration.

9. Lip Treatment
Wake up to the softest pucker ever by finishing your routine with a lip treatment. Our current fave is ILIA Lip Wrap Overnight Treatment. The potent, dual-action formula works like a facial for your lips, sweeping away dry, flaky skin while drawing in moisture to visibly renew and revitalize.
