When it comes to groceries, we’re first in line to buy whole, organic, and preservative-free foods. But what about beauty products?

Studies show that toxins applied topically can enter the bloodstream and cause nearly as much damage as those ingested orally. And even with high-end beauty products, far too often we find ourselves struggling to pronounce the listed ingredients. Yuck!

Luckily, homemade products are quick, simple alternatives. The following recipes require just a handful of ingredients, most of which are probably in your pantry already—and all of which are refreshingly easy to pronounce!

1. Lip Scrub
1 tablespoon coconut oil, plus 1 teaspoon for mixing
2 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon raw honey

Place the coconut oil (it should be relatively hard, not melted) in a small bowl. Mix with the honey until well combined. Incorporate the brown sugar, using more coconut oil if necessary.

2. Body Scrub
1/2 cup extra fine salt
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoon olive oil

Combine the salt and brown sugar in a bowl; slowly add in the olive oil. In the shower, apply to damp skin in a circular motion; rinse off.

3. Acne Cream
2 tablespoon coconut oil
2-3 drops tea tree oil

Melt the coconut oil on a stove top; add the tea tree oil and stir. Remove from heat and let cool; apply to problem areas with a cotton swab.

4. Shaving Cream
1/3 cup shea butter
3 tablespoon coconut oil
2 tablespoon sweet almond oil

Melt the shea butter and coconut oil together over a double boiler; remove from heat and slowly incorporate the almond oil. Let cool completely before applying.

5. Hair Mask
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup raw apple cider vinegar

Mix the ingredients together in the microwave or on the stove top; apply for 20 minutes and rinse off in the shower.
