We know we should feel really happy for our friends who are always posting pics of themselves and their S.O.s online. It’s great that they can spend so much time eating, playing, or going on romantic bike rides together (complete with 100 Instagram pics #blessed). But it’s still hard to not to get annoyed at all of those oh-so-happy posts.
It turns out, couples who seem perfect online may not actually be living in a love-filled fairy tale. According to a recent study in the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, people who excessively post about their love lives online tend to be the least secure in their relationships.
In fact, the study said, “on a daily basis, when people felt more insecure about their partner’s feelings, they tended to make their relationships visible.” And, “on days when people felt more insecure about their partner’s feelings than they typically do, they posted more relationship-relevant information on Facebook.”
We’re not saying that anyone who posts about their BF online is destined for an explosive break up, but it’s probably time to stop being jealous of your friends’ “perfect” love lives.
