Stick with It

Stay motivated and stay fit this winter

Sure, summer is beach season, but don’t put those bikinis in storage just yet, ladies…because winter is jacuzzi time! Unfortunately, everyone knows that staying motivated to work out in the winter can be harder than getting Vicky to smile for the Beckham family Christmas photo.

That’s why we called on trainer to the stars Valerie Waters for some expert advice. She has sculpted some of the hottest bods in Hollywood including Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, and other A-listers not quite as gorge as Brad…but close.

Val gave us her best tips on how to stay on track with our fitness and nutrition goals when the weather outside gets frightful, and the fudge bars seem so delightful:

Keep Your Vision Clear and Focused: Valerie has her clients make a “vision board” with pictures of the bod they want. You can even change the background of your phone or computer to a picture that reminds you of your goal. (Is it OK to put our head on Jessica Biel’s body for inspiration?)

Do Indoor Workouts: Valerie suggests searching online for bodyweight exercises, which can easily be done at home. You can even try a free video workout on her website using her travel-friendly “Valslide” (a celeb favorite).

Brave the Cold in Style: “Getting cute new workout gear for winter weather is super motivating,” Valerie says. Plus, “You always feel a little virtuous that you actually got out when other people want to stay in and have hot chocolate.”

Set Rules: When attending a party, Val says it helps to have strategies that work for you. “For example, I have a no bread rule. Bread is a slippery slope for me,” she explains. For others it may be limiting themselves to three appetizers or only veggies and dip.
