Shine No More
How to Stop Dreaded Daytime Shine
When you think of things that are shiny there’s a lot to like: diamonds, hair, gold, diamonds, clean cars, diamonds…but your face? Not so much!
When excess oil builds up on your face, it can make you look greasier than Charlie Sheen or Spencer (talk about slip-sliding away). You just don’t want someone to be able to see their reflection in your face. To fight the unwanted shine we enlisted E! make-up guru, Kat Connelly, to share her must-have mattifying secrets:
Fight Oil: Hot summer months can mean extra oil and a need for sun protection. Kat recommends Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF15. “It’s a great product that combines all your skin care needs in one.”
Keep skin moisturized: Seems weird when you are trying to fight shine, right? But as Kat explains, “Dehydrated skin can produce even more oil. A common mistake people make is to over dry their skin. It’s extremely important to properly cleanse and moisturize to maintain sebum balance.” Try an oil free moisturizer like DDF’s Ultra-Lite Moisturizing Dew.
Prime Your Skin: Kat says, “Adding a primer before make-up creates a smoother application but can also add a more matte finish to the skin.” Kat likes Murad Skin Perfecting Primer – Matte Finish which helps keep shine to a minimum.
Blot, Blot, Blot: Before piling on more makeup, try to blot away excess oil. Kat states, “A blot sheet is a quick and discreet must-have tool for the hot summer months. Many are available at your local drugstore, such as Clean and Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets. For added luxury, try Sephora’s blotting papers that are scented with Lavender or Tea Tree.”
Exfoliate: Kat suggest exfoliating twice a week, “Sun can dry the skin and exfoliating keeps it renewed.” For the best in exfoliation we recommend DDF’s Revolve – it gently sands off dead skin like no other!
Powder Your Nose: Touch up with a lightweight powder that will absorb any shine. Kat likes MAC Blot Powder. “It’s the ultimate in shine management! It will keep you fresh without heavy build up.”
