Hilarity (and Boy Bands) For Charity!
Picture this: One of Hollywood’s funniest men joining the world’s best boy band.
We know, you’re totes saying “I Want It That Way” (while singing I Want It That Way to yourself)!
Well friends, it happened. And it was just as uh-mazing as the mental image in your head…Seth Rogen became the sixth member of the beloved Backstreet Boys (complete with the Everybody dance moves!) and it was all for a good cause (not that we needed an excuse).
Seth (who said his favorite Backstreet song was “all of them!”) joined BSB’s Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, A.J. McLean and Kevin Richardson on stage April 25 at the second annual Hilarity for Charity — a night to benefit Alzheimer’s and help educate a younger demographic about the disease. He and his wife, Lauren Miller, whose mother suffers from the disease, came up with this genius event as a way to both raise money and have a good time. “Most charity events are not that fun to attend, you know? So we thought it what if we did an event that was the exact type of thing that we would actually go to?” Rogen said.
Tons of hilarious stars, from Mindy Kaling to Samuel L. Jackson, came out in support. Not so hilarious: Alzheimer’s disease is currently the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and is the only cause of death among the top 10 without a way to prevent, cure, or even slow its progression. Another American develops Alzheimer’s disease every 68 seconds.
While everyone was excited to raise money (over $500,000 was raised!), bring awareness, and have a good time, there was no question that every celeb on the red carpet was the most excited about Backstreet Boys. Even the paparazzi asked to take pictures with the band — now that’s a first!
Looking totally suave and stylish, we talked with the Boys about some of their earlier (and much less suave) fashion choices. “I don’t want to see anything that has a metallic shiny strip on it. That’s for airport personnel — it’s not for stage” A.J. said. And just for kicks, we asked them about the possibility of a Backstreet Boys/Spice Girls tour — brought about by a tweet from Mel B to the Backstreet Boys:
Why did the @backstreetboys and spice girls never duet?! Could you imagine the hotness?!
— Melanie Brown (@OfficialMelB) April 21, 2013
“Now that would be a summer tour right there!” A.J. said while he and Brian started singing a Wannabe/Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) mashup!
