Dancing with Sean Lowe
The Bachelor star dishes about life on DWTS
He’s smart, sexy, and committed! Sean Lowe is not only the latest star of our favorite Monday night guilty pleasure, but he might just be the “perfect man.” We got a chance to chat with The Bachelor star about love, his fab DWTS moves, and his favorite ways to stay in such gorgeous shape!
You’ve got Warrior Dash coming up this weekend, which is basically a crazy 5k run through mud and obstacles. What made you want to get involved with Warrior Dash?
I did it a couple years ago with a bunch of friends of mine; we had heard about it through some other friends who said it was just a really fun time and a just a cool activity, so we went out and did it and we had the time of our lives. We all dressed up in silly costumes; it was like nothing I’ve ever done before because the entire 5k you’re going through these crazy obstacles: running through water and mud, climbing over cargo nets, and just all kinds of really cool obstacles. So we had a blast, we finished the race, hung out, had some food and beer, watched a couple bands perform, and just overall had a really great time. I was definitely thrilled to team up with Warrior Dash this year and compete in the Southern California Dash.
When you’re not doing DWTS or crazy obstacle courses, what are your favorite ways to stay in shape?
Well I’ve got two dogs, a boxer and a lab, so I always try to get outdoors as much as possible with them. Now that we’re in Southern California I especially like to go to Runyon Canyon with the dogs; it’s a great place for me to get exercise, and they’re worn out after we finish there too. Outside of that, I really just love any kind of hiking with the dogs or outdoor activities. We have a lot of great lakes in Dallas that I love taking them to and they’ll swim, so that’s always fun.
Any plans to do any more fitness modeling? I’m sure the ladies would definitely love it if you did!
I did it for a couple years, but I don’t do much of it anymore. I mostly just did it for the challenge; there’s not a lot of money in fitness modeling, but I just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. It’s kind of fun, it’s fun to see your body transform the way it does when you stay on a strict regimen like that. I’ve been so busy the past 12 months I haven’t had a chance to do much of it, but it’s something that I might get back into once everything settled down a little bit.
What foods do you crave most when you’re training or trying to prepare for a shoot?
I’ve got a big sweet tooth. I love like chocolate chip cookies, cheesecake — anything that has chocolate in it, I will eat.
How do you like being on the show so far?
I love it! It’s such a challenge. Every day I just have to go in focused and determined to get better, because dancing is just really a difficult thing for me; I’ve never done it before and I have no training. But I love the relationships that I’m building with the other celebrities and the other pro dancers, and I really love how everyone supports each other. I thought it would be much more competitive than it is — I mean everyone wants to do well and they want to win, but when it comes down to it, everyone is mainly competing against themselves because you want to become the best dancer you can be.
What made you want to get involved with the show?
They approached me and honestly I was pretty thrilled. I love doing things that make me step outside my comfort zone, and dancing definitely does that. It’s such a big challenge, and I knew this was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity.
How is having Peta for a partner?
Peta is a great partner! She’s a good teacher and we have a lot of fun together, but most importantly of all she’s patient, which is good cause I screw up a lot. But she never loses her cool — she knows I’m a work in progress so she’s very patient, and I think that’s going to go a long way for us.
What have you been up to besides DWTS? Did you have any kind of break between The Bachelorette and DWTS?
I really didn’t have much of a break, basically none actually. I’m dancing anywhere between 6-8 hours a day so I don’t have too much time for anything else! It’s been really great because I have Catherine with me here, so when I’m done dancing, I’m usually just spending time with her. We like to do things that normal couples do, we have dinner and go out to the movies, we go to the park together, just stuff like that. I try to enjoy my free time with her as much as I can.
What’s your favorite thing to do in LA?
There are so many great restaurants here! Catherine and I really enjoy trying out as many new restaurants as we can, and getting to taste all the different cuisines. That’s something I think is really cool, ’cause I’ll train all day long, and then at night it’s so nice to come home, go out to a restaurant for a nice meal, and just relax and enjoy the evening.
Were you skeptical about finding love on The Bachelor?
I was skeptical for sure! I could meet 25 random women in Dallas and not really fall for any of them, so I didn’t know if it was going to work or not. I was just pleasantly surprised to find Catherine, and to fall in love with her.
If you had one day completely to yourself, free of any and all commitments, what would you do?
My dream day I think would just be hanging out on the beach, enjoying the day, taking a nap under the sun, and listening to the waves roll in.
What are you most looking forward to once Dancing with the Stars ends?
I need a little rest and relaxation, so as soon as DWTS is over, we’re going to a take a vacation.
