Fall Hits New York Early
Fashion Week: It’s all about Bohemian layers
It may only be the beginning of February, but in New York, Fall has already begun! The Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week kicked off with a bang Thursday, showcasing some stellar Bohemian-inspired collections from Nicholas K and BCBGMAXAZRIA.
The Fall Nicholas K collection took inspiration from Danish explorer Peter Freuchen, who mapped the Arctic at the beginning of the 20th century. Her pieces expressed a bit of an Eskimo vibe, layering knits, leathers, jerseys and silks in a slouchy way, dfinishing certain looks with heavy parkas. Nicholas K’s men’s collection was more structured — tailored outerwear with a heavy use of leather.
BCBGMAXAZRIA’s collection inspiration came from the style of Southern European gypsies and the architecture of Istanbul. As with Nicholas K, most looks were layered — silk shift printed dresses, comfy knit sweaters, fur vests or parkas with fur hoods, leather jackets. We especially love the slouchy beanies that completed each look.
There was a gorgeous juxtaposition of soft vs. structured, feminine vs. masculine in both runway shows, and the collections utilized a more neutral color palette — beige, olive, blue, gray, and black dominated Thursday’s runway.
Stay tuned for more Fashion Week coverage!
