NYFW Channels the Classics
Preppy, sexy, and glamorous were the style choices for Tuesday’s runway shows
Tuesday’s shows featured some of the most popular, modern designers in the biz. The runways were filled with preppy chic looks from Tory Burch and J. Crew while Badgley Mischka and Vera Wang paid homage to the sexier side of fashion.
For her show this year, Tory Burch did something she’s never done — she took her looks outside of the typical Fashion Week tents and staged her runway show in the Upper East Side’s glamorous Pierre Hotel. Tory’s collection was the epitome of ladylike style, with its combos of rich jewel and soft neutral tones. Skirts favored tailored looks with a bit of movement, the jewelry was bold, and the booties were velvet.
J.Crew’s Fashion Week show was all about patterns! Everything from sweaters to shorts to blouses were covered in mixed and matched patterns in strong colors. Colors from neon to navy were also big in this collection. J. Crew stuck to their signature yacht-worthy style with this show while also taking a successful risk in the color department.
Channeling old Hollywood glamour, Badgley Mischka’s Fall runway collection literally oozed sensuality. From mermaid silhouettes to luxe fabrics, it’s no wonder stars like Catherine Zeta Jones, Julia Roberts, and Kate Winslet are fans of this design duo! Their inspiration for Fall came from Hitchcock’s femmes fatales, which was evident from the strict silhouettes, fur finishes, and fishnet stockings that completed most looks. To. Die. For.
Vera Wang, who’s probably most known for her bridal collections, went a different route on Tuesday, showcasing pieces that “embrace sexy, easy glamour.” While her designs were very structural, most were made with super feminine fabrics, like floral prints or colored sequins. The result was both tailored and feminine, a trend we’ve been seeing all week — so expect to see some sexy structure on the streets this Fall!
