The Best in Taste

by  |

There’s something really nice about eating little plates of food. Even when you eat dozens of them you don’t feel like you’ve overindulged.

But overindulge we certainly did at last weekend’s The Taste. But who wouldn’t? The Los Angeles Times‘ fourth annual food and wine festival brought the best of LA’s dining scene to the Paramount Studios lot. The three-day affair featured five distinct events hosted by Jonathan Gold, Chefs Michael Cimarusti, Sang Yoon, Nancy Silverton, and Cocktail Chef Matthew Biancaniello.

Nearly 10,000 foodies feasted on a myriad of tastings from their fave restaurants while being treated to an array of cooking and mixology demos and panels. We were lucky enough to check out the sold-out Saturday night celebration, Flavors of LA. It was a true melting pot of flavors including everything from Lukshon’s DanDan noodles to gourmet sliders from The Counter to Chichén Itzá’s grilled shrimp with creamy habanero sauce to The Cake Mamas’ salty caramel-filled chocolate cupcakes. We are still dreaming about the perfect tuna handroll from Sushi Roku, the beautifully fried chicken from Superba Snackbar, the pad-thai-inspired slider from Ayara Thai, and yes, even the Frito Pie from Fred 62 found a special place in our hearts and stomach. OK now we’re getting hungry again!

And of course the delish drinks flowed heavily as well. We loved sampling a variety of wines from the Francis Ford Coppola Winery, some lovely Karma Tequila, Stella Artois beer and something delish called Adult Chocolate Milk.

Yes it was a true food fantasy and we can’t wait to go back next year. Of course tonight we will be hitting the gym!
