Humpday Hottie: The Oscars Leading Men

by  |

This Sunday marks the 85th annual Academy Awards, and our personal vote for the hottest nominees for Actor in a Leading Role ever! Seriously, the Oscars are going to give Magic Mike a run for its money (why wasn’t that piece of cinematic gold nominated by the way?)

So we are bringing you a very special Humpday Hottie Award Show Hotties Smackdown putting the leads of our fave movies head-to-head. We gave five of our writers the chance to pitch their pick for the hottest nominee for Best Actor in a Leading Role! (Feel free to read the following in that cool announcer voice, and see which of our writers you agree with!

Bradley Cooper, Silver Linings Playbook
Who would have ever thought that blue-eyed, dirty blonde, bachelor party-throwing Brad would be nominated for an Oscar?! The cutie has shown some serious versatility transitioning from The Hangover to his role in Silver Linings Playbook as Pat, a former mental hospital patient trying to rebuild his life. Brad displayed his dramatic side, and showed that he isn’t just tigers and missing teeth in Vegas. Though, we have to admit; we can’t wait for The Hangover Part III!

Hugh Jackman, Les Misérables
Hugh Jackman is a triple threat. He can sing, he can dance and he can act. Swoon! Hugh recently wowed the critics, and us, with his heavy performance in Les Misérables which even earned him an Oscar nod. When Hugh isn’t dazzling audiences on the silver screen he plays the role of family man to his wife and two kids. Okay, we’re seriously obsessed. Even if Hugh doesn’t grab an Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards we’ll still be head over heels for this charming Aussie.

Denzel Washington, Flight
We’re bringing back the White Chicks label for Denzel Washington. “What a beautiful chocolate man!” But it’s not just his sex appeal that never gets old, his Oscar-worthy charm, and the way he commands any room with his presence! Our fave thing about him is that he’s a total family man, having been married for 27 years — which is huge for Hollywood. Mmhm, and after seeing him in Flight, he can pilot our Humpday Hottie list any day!

Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln
Daniel Day-Lewis may not be the first person to come to mind when you think of “Humpday Hottie,” but take a closer look: classic features, a full head of hair, and an unparalleled commitment to every role he plays. Time magazine called him the “World’s Greatest Actor,” and that much talent is definitely sexy. With his old-school charm and ridiculous acting chops, this silver fox deserves to take the cake for this week’s hottie.

Joaquin Phoenix, The Master
Admittedly, Joaquin Phoenix has had his ups and downs when it comes to Humpday Hottie worthiness. But let’s be real here — so have most men in Hollywood (George Clooney aside). So let’s forget his crazy past and focus on his performance in 2012’s The Master, in which he plays a WWII veteran who gets lured into a strange new religious movement. With his third Academy Award nomination at just 38 years old, it’s about time Joaquin took home a gold statue. And we think it’s about time he be adequately recognized for his emotionally tormented hotness. Don’t you?
