Dry shampoo is a gift bestowed upon us from the beauty gods. It allows us to shampoo less and keeps our locks looking fresh even after the third (or fourth) day.

While it may be tempting to buy whatever dry shampoo is available at your local drugstore, it’s helpful to know that there usually is a specific dry shampoo match for every hair type. Finer hair types, for example, may not want to use a product that is extremely drying or detoxifying. Similarly, oily and thicker hair types may want to look for buildup-busting products that keep greasiness at bay.

Additionally, celebrity hairstylist Paul Labrecque suggests that the way you use your dry shampoo is equally important. “Dry shampoo would typically be used on day two (or three) after a blowout or other fresh style,” Labrecque says. “Only spray the product on your roots in quick spurts and always spray from a distance. Doing so prevents the product from dulling your hair color.”

To help you find the dry shampoo product that is best suited for your needs, we’re sharing our favorite dry shampoos for common hair types below.
