How to Please Your Fam With a Meatless Meal

Barilla PLUS Rotini with Puttanesca Sauce is a super yummy version of the traditional Italian pasta dish, but it packs 17g of protein per 3.5 ounce portion of pasta. This is as much as the protein found in half a chicken breast*. And it combines Barilla PLUS Rotini noodles with Marinara sauce, garlic, black olives, and capers for a well-rounded bite.

Yup, the only question G-ma will be asking after trying this meal is “Can I have more?!” (And “Where are my dentures?”)

Barilla PLUS Rotini with Puttanesca Sauce

Serves 7


1 Box Barilla PLUS Rotini
1 Jar Barilla® Marinara sauce
4 Tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1 Garlic clove, whole
2 Anchovies (optional)
1/2 Teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 Cup black olives, pitted and sliced into rounds
2 Tablespoons capers, preferably in salt, rinsed
1 Tablespoon parsley, chopped
Sea salt to taste

15 minutes preparation + 10 minutes cooking
1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil
2. In a skillet, Saute garlic in 2 tablespoons olive oil with anchovies and red pepper
3. Just before the garlic turns yellow, stir in sauce and 1/2 cup of water, simmer for five minutes
4. Add olives and capers, season with salt if needed
5. Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package directions
6. Drain pasta and toss with the sauce
7. Sprinkle with parsley and drizzle with olive oil before serving
