Winter Skin Secrets

by  |

Dear G,

Whenever winter arrives my skin completely changes and none of my usual skin care products work like before. Help!

Dear Elyse,

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. In fact, when winter rolls around it’s pretty common for your skin to freak out worse than a pack of preteen girls at a One Direction concert. (Well, let’s be honest — those boys are uh-dorable!) Not so adorable? The nasty effects that winter’s cold, dry weather can have on that once-flawless face!

I’m talking cheeks rosier than Santa Claus’, a nose redder than Rudolph’s, and skin that’s flakier than Lindsay Lohan on a movie set. That’s right, dealing with your changing complexion can be frustrating, and considering all of the holiday parties and festive functions you’ll be attending, you surely can’t afford a dermal disaster.

But before you grab a ski mask to cover the imperfections, I’ve found your seasonal skin saviors! Seriously, from lip renewal cream to hydrating cleansing oil and even a lotion that is actually made for men, there are some products I cannot get through winter without!

So leave the crying, screaming, and shouting to the “Directioners” and take a different direction for your dermis this winter with my picks for this season’s best skin care products!

Rè Vive Lip & Perioral Renewal Cream $115: It’s inevitable to get dry lips during cold weather, but this powerful product protects and prevents that pout from drying up!

Koh Gen Do Soft Gommage $45: This stuff is a serious godsend! Not only does it exfoliate but it stimulates circulation within the skin on your face! You know what that means? It leaves you with super soft skin and a glowing complexion like you’ve never had before!

St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Spray $30: Don’t let the cold weather keep you from having a bronze glow! St. Tropez’s super fine self tanning spray comes out even, natural-looking and, most importantly, it’s long-lasting! Now you don’t need to make any excuses to cover yourself up!

Jack Black Industrial Strength Hand Healer $15: In the winter hands get exposed to harsh weather, because — hello?! — how are we supposed to use our iPhone in mittens? Before hands start looking drier than summer in the Sahara, try this heavy-duty hand healer. It’s actually for men, but let’s just say it’s the best gift I ever bought Bill.

Juara Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner $18.54: Let’s be honest, once the cold weather hits, your skin is in desperate need of some hydration! This oil-free toner and serum soothes and hydrates the skin with an extra little dose of hyaluronic acid. Tamarind seed extract also helps to treat and reduce skin roughness! Uh-mazing!

MAC Strobe Cream $31: A product that removes evidence of stress and sleep deprivation while brightening, boosting, and clarifying your skin? This must be a holiday miracle! The vitamins and green tea not only freshen, but repair your exposed skin.

Sephora Brush-on Cuticle Oil $12: Putting lotion on your hands may not be good enough for the cuticles, which are already tough and prone to dryness. Pop this pen in your purse for on-the-go treatment without the mess of a lotion bottle — you never know when the guy handing over your Starbucks may be your next date!

Josie Maran Argan Oil $44: This legendary oil from Morocco is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Use it as skin moisturizer, cuticle oil, or hair conditioner! Just a couple of drops of this organic oil will keep your skin, nails, and hair well-hydrated!

Sunday Riley Crème Radiance Breathable Ageless Foundation $58: Sunday Riley’s radiance-boosting skin care line will cure your winter weariness! Keep your glow with this tinted formula that reduces redness, enhances collagen production, and moisturizes!

Chanel Hydramax + Active Moisture Mask $50: If there is one thing our skin needs in the winter, it’s moisture. And if there is one product to deliver it, this is the one! I would seriously bathe in this stuff! Slather it on in the evening and wake up to the softest skin imaginable.

Bobbi Brown Cleansing Oil $52.20: In the winter your skin needs a gentler cleanser, but there’s no need to sacrifice a good deep cleanse. Try a cleansing oil to remove makeup and thoroughly cleanse skin in one step, all the while maintaining natural moisture levels.

xx, G
