How to celebrate St. Patty’s day the Irish way

    20130316_stpattys_610

Let’s be honest; Los Angeles is not exactly known for its pubs. Schmancy cocktail lounges with mixologists, sure. Dirty dives with seedy bartenders, not so much.

Despite this oversight in reputation, our fair city is actually home to many a neighborhood pub, which makes it a great place in which to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

And just in time for St. Patty’s Day we’ve rounded up the best Irish pubs in town. And before you thumb your nose at the lowbrow nature of these establishments, we would like to remind you that in our experience, the guy-to-girl ratio in a pub on St. Patty’s Day is definitely in our favor.

    Rock & Reilly’s
    8911 W. Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, 310-360-1400
A relative newcomer to the scene, Reilly’s has quickly become one of our favorite watering holes. They’re starting the celebration early with a massive block party on Saturday, the 16th. From noon to 10 p.m., there will be food trucks, beer trucks, DJs, and lots and lots of fellow revelers. Admission is $20 at the door, with 15% of the proceeds going to Pencils of Promise.

    Casey’s
    613 S. Grand Ave., Downtown, 213-817-5321
If one crazy block party per weekend is not enough for you, Casey’s is hosting its own celebration on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. There will be drinks (obviously), games, giveaways, and specials at neighboring bars including Seven Grand, Golden Gopher, and others. Admission is free before 1 p.m., $8 after, and $20 for a VIP fast pass.

    Tom Bergin’s
    840 S. Fairfax Ave., Mid-Wilshire, 323-936-7151
We’re excited Tom Bergin’s is back on the scene this year, and they’ve assured us their celebration will be “the biggest event of all time.” If you’re looking for bagpipers, a very Irish bar menu, and bartenders who’ll be trying to break the world record for serving the most Irish coffees ever, Bergin’s is your bar. They’ll be open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., and are expecting people to start lining up outside at 5 a.m.

    Molly Malone’s
    575 S. Fairfax Ave., Mid-Wilshire, 323-935-1577
Molly’s, another fixture in the LA pub scene, will also open at 6 a.m. and promises corned beef and cabbage all day, bagpipers starting at noon, and live bands starting at 3 p.m.

    Dillon’s Irish Pub
    6263 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, 323-315-9744
If you’re interested in seeing “real” live leprechauns, we’d suggest heading to Dillon’s in Hollywood anytime between 6 a.m. and 2 a.m. They’ll also have drink specials, a photo booth, and, so as not to be outdone, the apparently requisite bagpipers.

    Jameson’s Irish Pub
    6681 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, 323-798-5360
Also in Hollywood, and also opening at 6 a.m., Jameson’s will be offering 2-for-1 cocktails from noon to 8 p.m. and bottomless bloody marys and mimosas.

    Finn McCool’s
2702 Main St., Santa Monica, 310-452-1734
Those of you who live west of the 405 needn’t despair. Finn’s is opening at 8 a.m., and the folks there are promising a “massive party.”
