LA’s Best Girls’ Nights Out
Sips, sun, and stilettos are all we need
When the work gets tough, the tough get going…to have a night of fun with friends. Even in the craziest of weeks, there’s no shame in taking a little break to gush with your girls — after all, describing the latest hottie at the gym or debating whether KStew and RPatz are actually back together would be so much better in person instead of over Facebook chat. And girls just wanna have fun, right?
From the calm and casual to the loud and lascivious, these LA venues are sure to spice up your next ladies’ night. So before your man intrudes and begs you to stay under the covers, round up your besties and prepare to confess all your latest dirt!
The Next Door Lounge
1154 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood, 323-465-5505
Rated the best speakeasy in Los Angeles in 2012 by CBS, this hidden gem near Sunset transports guests into a time when film noir, flappers, and Hollywood collided. Whether you opt for the casual comfort of the cushy chairs and silent film projections in the theater room or the mix and mingle meeting areas around the bar, this place will remind you just how thrilling a little secret rendezvous can be. Choose from gourmet takes on classic bar food — sweet potato and kale pizza — and a bevy of artsy cocktails, crisp wines, and craft beers to help you raise a glass (or several!) to Prohibition. Make sure to check out Whiskey Wednesdays if your girls have had a rough week, or wine and cheese Thursdays if you need a good gossip sesh!
5574 Melrose Ave., Hollywood, 323-871-8699
Nothing screams “girls’ night!” like a Parisian-themed bar that sports a wine menu with more champagne than actual wine. We’re almost afraid to admit it, but we may even skip the bubbly altogether in favor of one of the house specialty cocktails. (Hey, if one of the sections of a drink menu translates to “health,” what could be the harm?) Put on your best chic frock, get cozy in the red velvet booths surrounded by beaded lamps, and get your taste of Paris without having to find your passport. Just be forewarned — the je ne sais quoi of this establishment appeals to many people, so make a reservation if you can.
28128 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, 310-457-2503
Who needs a private island when you have potential getaways all around you? Soak up some sun and some tropical treats at this private beach, café, and bar along a quiet, hidden stretch of Malibu. You and the girls can start the day with omelets, pancakes, and tequila sunrises and spend the afternoon lounging, exploring the secret caves, and (of course) sampling the many delicious cocktails presented in pineapples, watermelons, and coconuts. If you want to make it the ultimate day of indulgence, splurge on the infamous slice of “mile high cake” from the café — no day with the besties is complete without a little chocolate!
City Sip L.A.
2150 W. Sunset Blvd., Echo Park, 213-483-9463
With a motto like “wine for the people,” this Echo Park haunt might just be the perfect place when you need a relaxing chat — or all-out vent — with the BFFs and a lot of vino. Munch on snacks, salads, or sandwiches while you take a few of the 60-odd wines for a test drive. (Or shall we say “spin?” Get it? Actually, now that we think about it, the pun is doubly relevant if you consider the spin-the-bottle happy hour specials.) If you want to make a weekly tradition out of grub and gab, join Wednesday Wine Club.
1439 Ivar Ave., Hollywood, 323-463-0004
If girls’ night needs to be filled with glitz, glam, and glitter (even if that last one is only on your miniskirt), head to the latest adventure from Sunset Entertainment Group. Featuring four bars, two stages, lots of dance space, and a diamond-faceted entrance that leads to a white and suede VIP area and secret back patio, this club will bring you all the trappings of Vegas — potentially including the steep prices, high-rolling crowd, and debauchery. But hey, every gal needs a splurge, and this way you save on airfare! Wrangle a group of fab ladies and a tolerable pair of stilettos and you’ll be ready to dance the stress away.
The Bazaar by José Andrés
8000 Beverly Blvd., Beverly Hills, 323-655-8000
Eat, drink, and be glamorously gourmet at this upscale, yet affordable restaurant by James Beard award recipient José Andrés and the SBE group. With an extensive wine list, handcrafted cocktails, and an entire dinner menu based around tapas, this beautiful Spanish eatery blends tradition with ingenuity in both food and décor. If sharing really is caring, a relaxed tapas meal in calming candlelight would be a perf way to bond with your bunch. Bonus: all of the small plates are super fresh and super healthy, so no excuses of being on a diet can be used to pass up this hot spot!
2911 Main St., Santa Monica, 310-314-4855
If craft beer is your gourmet go-to cocktail, look no further. This alehouse combines the rustic attributes of a brewery with upscale, organic fare like salads and burgers to salivate over. With an indoor bar and outdoor, twinkle-lit patio, you can choose to keep it chill and casual or take girl’s night on the town to any of the nearby Main St. liquor-rich offerings. Gourmet beer cupcakes sweeten the deal to make a combo of chatting and craft culture that will cure any ale-ment.
