Humpday Hottie: Eric Bana
3 things you didn’t know about the Aus-ome actor
We saw him flex his dramatic acting skills in Black Hawk Down and Munich. But it wasn’t until we saw him flex his rock hard biceps in Troy, (and then as Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk, and yet again in The Time Traveler’s Wife) that we truly appreciated Eric Bana’s “body” of work.
Yep, by this time we’ve seen a whooooole lot of the Australian actor (not that we’re complaining), but Eric still is quite a mystery to us. The Melbourne native continues to live in the Aussie metropolis, and manages to keep his family life out of Hollywood’s bright lights for the most part. But we decided to play detective and find out a little bit more about the hottie starring in Closed Circuit, in theaters today! Here are a few things you may not have known about Mr. Eric Bana.
1. He’s funny. Eric began his career as a stand-up comedian while bartending at night. He then appeared on the show Full-Frontal (no, it’s not what you think…unfortunately) where he did impressions of stars including Tom Cruise (who is 7 inches shorter and 10 times crazier than Bana). He even had his own sketch comedy show titled The Eric Bana Show Live, which was canceled, but won him a Logie award for Most Popular Comedian.
2. He proposed to his wife on a trip he won for being Bachelor of the Year. Bana met his wife, publicist Rebecca Gleeson, in 1995. The next year Cleo Magazine named him their “Bachelor of the Year,” giving him a trip to the United States. He proposed to his gal on the trip, making it the last time he could be considered a sexy bachelor (though still sexy nonetheless).
3. He is a huge motor-racing enthusiast. At age 15, Bana purchased his first car, a 1974 XB Ford Falcon coupé for A$1100. It was in this car that he made his motor racing debut in 1996 in the Targa Tasmania, which is a week-long race spanning the island of Tasmania. He even released a documentary in 2009 which chronicled the role that this car played in his life for over a quarter of a century. Unfortunately, Eric crashed “The Beast” in the Targa Tasmania of 2007, injuring only his beloved car.
