Get Your Run On
The best local outdoor running and hiking trails
Can you feel it? It’s that special time of year when the mix of sunny mornings and cooler temps makes you want to swap that sweaty, smelly gym for a stretch of pavement!
Yes, this fall we are all about getting our run on!
Whether you’ve run two marathons this year or just two blocks to your local Starbucks, now is the perfect time to go the distance…or at least to try. We’ve rounded up five of our fave LA running trails to help get you started. Enjoy!
Manhattan Beach Chip Trail/Sand Dune Park
This two-part, 8-mile-long, South Bay run is one killer workout! Start out on the Wood Chip Trail that is surprisingly covered in well…wood chips! What you might not know is that running on wood chips can reduce the impact on your joints, a major plus! Then head to the dunes for a tough but rewarding uphill run with a pretty awesome city view.
Sullivan Canyon Preservation
The secluded trail in the Santa Monica Mountains offers gorge views of the ocean and canyons. Reward yourself for the run by packing a picnic and stopping at one of the little waterfalls or creeks.
Rose Bowl Loop
Sure, it may be better known for its football games and swap meets, but we think the Rose Bowl's short 3-mile trail is a perfect place for a run. It’s a popular spot, so if you want a little more room to yourself, make sure to go during off hours.
Griffith Park
With 53 nature-filled miles of dirt trails and hiking paths, this is a fab place to get your run on. Explore the wilderness of oak trees as you trek up to Dante’s Peak.
Palisades Park, Santa Monica
Want your run with a side of people watching? Join the beach-seeking tourists as you travel down Palisades Park’s extensive dirt and sand paths. This is definitely a run with a view.
