Cure that Hangover
The best recovery and prevention measures
At happy hour last week, our convo veered toward the all-time best hangover cures. Suddenly, this middle-aged guy sitting one stool down leaned over and said what always works for him is his mother’s butterfly kisses on his forehead.
OK, the first thing we did was move seats! But in all of the champagne toasting ahead of us, the second thing we did was gather a somewhat less, uh, eccentric list of hangover cures. Needless to say, but we’ll say it anyway, the most important thing is to be safe and careful and not drink too much this New Year’s Eve.
Bytox: If a patch works for smoking, then why not hangovers? These little patches help to replenish vitamins and nutrients lost from too much alcohol, thereby reducing the physical side effects of drinking. Wear them the night before to prevent the dreaded effects or the day after to help you feel better.
Coconut Water: With more electrolytes than Gatorade, this is nature’s “go-to” sweet cure. Coconut water is extracted from very young fruit. The water is low-cal, fat-free, and has amazing abilities to rehydrate the body.
Mercy: Stop a hangover before it ever happens? Now that’s our kind of cure. The lightly carbonated drink contains a unique blend of amino acids, antioxidants, and vitamins to help stave off the unwanted hangover blues. Drink Mercy in between cocktails or use it as a mixer with vodka or champagne. Of course, as with everything else, don’t drink too much. FFF readers get 15% off with the code MERCYFAB and the first five people who buy using the code will also receive a free 12 pack!
Banana Smoothie: Go bananas with an easy shake made of agave, milk, bananas, and a crushed aspirin. Bananas are known to calm an upset stomach and the potassium will help replace what you lost the night before.
Drinkwel: A multivitamin specifically formulated to help those who drink? Sign us up! Created by two UC Berkeley graduates and formulated by two doctors, Drinkwel’s unique combo of ingredients is said to replenish nutrients, support healthy liver function, and help your body process alcohol-induced toxins. Lucky FabFitFun readers get free priority (two-day) shipping for all orders over $20 with the code fff (good through Dec. 31)!
Blowfish: Think of an Alka-Seltzer designed specifically to combat a big night out. The fizzy tablets contain a potent combination of aspirin, antacid, and caffeine to help get you going the morning after.
Menudo: This spicy Mexican favorite is made of hominy, chiles, onions, and tripe (aka beef stomach). If you can get past that in your condition, the savory soup is said to help you sweat out all your alcoholic toxins.
