The happiest holiday cocktails of the season
Twinkling lights, Mariah Carey’s Christmas CD, and specialty holiday cocktails! That’s right, a good seasonal cocktail tops our list of favorite things about the holiday season.
OK, so Christmas is over, but in all honesty, cocktails are pretty much our favorite part of every season. During the hectic winter months it’s good to know that when we need a shopping break we’ve got plenty of options!
Pumpkin Spice Martini
Fig & Olive
8490 Melrose Place, West Hollywood
Move over Starbucks because there’s a new fave pumpkin spice beverage in town! Pumpkin spiced marmalade, ginger syrup, and infused vanilla vodka make for one sensational seasonal cocktail. Is it wrong to wish our coffee cups were filled with this stuff?
2141 W. Sunset Blvd., Echo Park
Not a fan of traditional egg nog? You’ll love this lighter version of the seasonal fave. Snap liqueur, soy milk, and pecan deliver all the goodness of the yuletide staple, minus the heavy cream.
Big Daddy’s Holiday Egg Nog
11648 San Vicente Blvd., Brentwood
If you’re game for the real thing, this nog should go to the top of your list! It’s an age-old, secret family recipe and all they will tell us is that it’s got Jameson Irish Whiskey and a splash of rum. All we need to know is it is delicious!
The Spare Room at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel
7000 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood
Prepare to drool. Nutmeg, cream, cinnamon spiced pumpkin, hazelnut and allspice liqueurs, and Jamaican rum. Yum! We don’t know what Grandma has to do with it and we don’t care! With a treat this tasty it’s easy to go overboard, so remember to drink responsibly — you don’t want to end up on the naughty list!
Hot Winter Cider
7702 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood
Cozy up with a mug of this stuff and just try not to smile like a kid on Christmas morning. Hot cider always makes us feel like we should be warming up for a long skate on the ice rink outside. The heavy dose of Hennessy and Jack in this version quickly makes us grateful to be nowhere near an ice rink.
Rock Candy Swizzle
Bar 1886 at The Raymond Restaurant
1250 S. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena
Skip the figgy pudding and opt for the fig-infused rye that’s in this bad boy instead. Combine cognac, homemade grenadine, and lemon juice and stir it all up with your candy swizzle stick for a very merry treat that will put any holiday fruitcake to shame!
Adult Hot Cocoa
Taste on Melrose
8454 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood
Is there anything better than a steaming mug of hot cocoa? Yes, indeed there is — a grown-up version made with tasty liqueurs in festive flavors like mint and hazelnut! Be a little naughty and sip a cinnamon cocoa spiked with schnapps or the mocha made with Godiva chocolate liqueur.
9546 Washington Blvd., Culver City
Need something to cure the winter blues? Vodka muddled with berries and mint should do the trick! It’s sweetened with agave syrup and a dash of fresh sour to snap you out of any cold weather funk.
