Have you ever been too afraid to congratulate an acquaintance on her pregnancy for fear that she simply gained a few pounds? Well, Beyoncé has the opposite problem. During her extremely publicized pregnancy with her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, a number of media outlets spread rumors that Queen Bey was wearing a prosthetic baby bump. A video that appeared to show her baby bump folding up brought the conspiracy theories to new levels of insanity. Now, Beyoncé and her family have responded to the drama.

“It wasn’t hurtful,” Beyoncé told People. “It was just crazy…There was so much love and well wishes from all over the world—it made it easier to deal with the stupid rumors.”

But while Beyoncé took the gossip in stride, her mother couldn’t just laugh off the baby-gate rumors.

“I thought it was very unfair and very cruel…As a mother it was painful for me to hear the crazy rumors. And I even had people ask me, which was so ridiculous.”

The arrival of Blue Ivy Carter should have killed the rumors, but conspiracy theorists aren’t known for backing down in the face of concrete evidence. Many people still think the pop star secretly hired a surrogate to protect her figure from baby weight.
