Ask G: A Good Foundation

by  |

Dear G,

I need a foundation that will cover up my acne and dark spots but still look natural. What do you suggest?

Elena

Dear Elena,

I can empathize. Thanks to high-def TV, hiding little wrinkles, blemishes, and other skin imperfections can be harder than hiding the hair dye from Katy Perry. Even if you’re not facing the glare of the lens, we all want to look like we have flawless skin.

Although most foundations promise natural-looking, pore-free perfection, the reality is often a caked-on goopy mess that just doesn’t last.

Of course, I have tried almost all of them and there are definitely foundations that stand apart. And while everyone knows how much I love a bargain, if you are going to splurge on makeup, foundation is worth it. Check out my all-time faves:

Make Up Forever HD Invisible Cover FoundationWhen you need HD-worthy coverage, you have to check out the serious staying power of this fab formula. The natural looking foundation will leave you with a flawless finish under any light!

Smashbox’s Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation SPF 10: Serious staying power with super fab coverage, their 15-hour formula will leave you picture perfect all night long.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid: When I wanna go super glam, MAC is my go-to choice. It leaves my skin with a shine-free finish and hides any imperfections.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer: If you want lighter coverage, Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer is the way to go. The super sheer formula features just a hint of color for a natural, glowing finish. And I love that it has SPF 20!

Nars Firming Foundation: Why just cover when you can lift, strengthen and protect, too? The fab foundation features a patented polypeptide firming complex that is suitable for all skin types.

Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturizing Foundation: The super-luxe, super-hydrating formula leaves skin nourished with a dewy, healthy, smooth look.

xx, G
