There is a reason Robin Hood has been remade again and again. He has game — and we are not just referring to his ability to woo the ladies. His archery skills dominate every version of the movie and it is undeniably inspiring. With new shows like Arrow and Revolution, and the phenomenon that is The Hunger Games, the bow and arrow are back on the scene in a big way!
The sheer thrill of feeling as badass as Katniss Everdeen may be one of the reasons we are tempted to take up archery, but you don’t have to go hunting animals in your backyard just to get your hands on a bow and arrow. National organizations such as the SCA offer lessons to satisfy the archery craving, but many local sporting goods stores do as well. While we may not have access to a trainer who’s an Olympic archer like Jennifer Lawrence did, there are still ways to hone your skills.
The sport boasts several health benefits, putting you on a fast track to a killer (no pun intended) physique. Archery helps to build upper body and core strength. It also improves focus, balance, and coordination, all of which will help you in many aspects of your life. Imagine how much easier it will be to walk in those 6-inch Louboutins after a few lessons!
